Picky Eaters

Picky Eaters... You all know one. You may be a parent to one. Heck, you might even be one.

It baffles my mind how people feel the need pass judgment on this issue. In large quantities for that matter. I admit, in the past I judged, too. Until God blessed me with a picky eater. You may call it Karma. I call it a God Slap. He does get us back for our thoughts as much as He does for our actions!

What makes a parent's blood boil are ignorant comments such as:

He'll never be healthy.
(...Um, "healthy" people get sick, too!!!)
You're not trying hard enough.
You're just spoiling him. He knows you'll give in.
Make him sit at the table until his plate is clean.
You know how to fix that... let him starve until he'll eat.

Watching your child refuse to eat isn't easy. We second guess our parenting ability on our own. The extra comments, eye rolls or "disgusted" head nods are not needed. Our doctor (You know, someone that has a medical degree, in pediatrics no less AND a mother to 2) reminds me that this, too, shall pass. To enjoy his preschool years, because soon enough he'll be eating like a Linebacker.

Yes, Hunter will refuse to eat all day. He has done it plenty of times. Does this bother me? Of course it does! What type of evil parent do you think I am? When you can fit your foot into my size 6.5 shoe, I'll be happy to talk to you about it. Until then, allow me to parent the way I see fit. Scott & I know our three beautiful & FANTASTIC children better than anyone.

For the record, I am working "good" food into his Mac n' Cheese, Chicken Nuggets, PB&J and Meat & Cheese sandwiches. There are books out there to help frazzled parents keep their children healthy. So, when you see my son eating what he loves, please just smile & keep your mouth shut. You have no idea what it's like until you're in the midst of it all.

Kim,
Well said. I always get so annoyed when I feel people are judging me for not making my kids eat all their food. I offer them healthy choices but I can't and won't force them to eat. You are doing great!
